Machine Learning in Wireless Communications – Academia to Industry – 8 September 2025

IEEE Women in Engineering New Zealand North Section hosted an in person technical talk on Machine Learning in Wireless Communications – Academia to Industry, delivered by Riku Luostari, Research Lead at Nokia R&D and former CTO of Nokia NZ.

The session explored the practical application of machine learning in wireless systems, bridging theoretical concepts with real world industry use. Attendees gained insights into transitioning from academia to industry, along with perspectives from an international engineering career.

The event was held at the University of Auckland and included networking and refreshments following the talk.

  

 

Scalable Verification Framework for Complex System-on-Chip Designs – 10 November 2025

IEEE Women in Engineering New Zealand North Section hosted a technical webinar on Scalable Verification Framework for Complex System-on-Chip Designs, presented by Rasadhi Attale.

The session focused on verification methodologies for complex SoC designs, highlighting scalable approaches used in industry. Participants joined virtually via Zoom, providing an accessible platform for students and professionals to engage with advanced semiconductor design topics.

 

IEEE Day 2023: STEM Fun – 3rd October 2023

STEM Fun, organized by IEEE WIE NZ North section, as part of IEEE Day 2023, was an engaging and educational event designed to introduce high school students to the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Participants had the opportunity to delve into hands-on electrical and computing activities, fostering their curiosity and passion for STEM fields. With two sessions, each accommodating up to 20 students, the event provided an interactive platform for young minds to explore, learn, and connect. The workshop was overseen by Dr Dulsha Kularatna-Abeywardana, Chair for 2023, and was conducted by two final year students at UoA Ruskin Swedlund & Tianhua He.
